Savor New Hope - Last year
July 15 & 16, 2006

The annual town wide event Savor New Hope – Showcase the Arts – presented each year by New Hope Arts Inc was the biggest and best to date. The three day event presented by the not for profit organization is created to celebrate the arts and artists of the region. This year’s event boasted three times as many activities as last year and despite warm weather the dinner celebration drew a full house. George Michael provided free parking for guests and Curt Ball of Labor & Logistics Management donated his parking lot for the event.

Karen Gross, Bucks County singer/songwriter, "Thank you for the opportunity to perform at Showcase the Arts of New Hope. I wanted to inform you that I was booked by an officer of the New Hope Historical Society for their awards dinner and a music journalist from the Trenton Times. As a singer songwriter based in Bucks County I appreciate your support for the arts
in our area.”

In her welcome New Hope Arts director Robin Larsen thanked the current borough council for their support of the group’s efforts and George E. Michael for his support since the inception of the group. In addition, she lauded Tom Scannapieco for his donation of the space the group currently occupies at 2 Stockton Avenue and Elliott Building Group Ltd. for their major financial support. After thanking the hard working New Hope Arts volunteers, members of Downtown Performing Arts Center and area chefs who served guests at the dinner, she encouraged guests to support the restaurants and area businesses that support the arts – particularly in this post flood season.

Artist and New Hope Arts board member Wendy Wilkinson Gordon thought, “ Sunday’s celebration was a wonderful event and a great opportunity for the community to come together. The food was amazing and a real tribute to the amazing restaurants we have we have in our area.” Gordon also opened her studio to visitors for the Savor New Hope weekend.

On Saturday, “Children enjoyed creating mini sculptures from wire and foam fish printed masterpieces not to mention folded fun samurai paper hats under the tents. It’s fun to see what kids come up with when you give them lots of different materials to work with”, added Leslie Crilley, Co-Chairperson of the children’s activities and Volunteer Coordinator for the entire weekend event.

Borough Council Vice-president Sharyn Keiser offered, “Kudos once again for a fantastic weekend and an extraordinary finale. It was amazing!”

In total, more than twenty-five restaurants and chefs served everything from beautiful salmon filets and beef brisket, alligator jambalaya, slow roasted fresh ham and much more. Fresh baked pies and cookies, exceptional bread pudding and Thomas Sweet ice cream ended the evening on a yummy note.

Saturday, musicians from throughout the region served up everything from traditional blues to contemporary piano favorites in free outdoor concerts. Saturday evening a number of galleries opened to hundreds of visitors who enjoyed exhibitions of traditional area painters, well known photographers and inventive contemporary artists. Most of the exhibitions that planned openings and gallery talks will continue their shows through the next several weeks.
