FACTORY 418 Sumbioun

Sumbioun is on view through April 12

A site-specific installation, Sumbioun, created by Philadelphia artists known as FACTORY 418 opens at New Hope Arts Saturday, March 14. This collaborative exhibition is NHArts first presentation offering emerging artists a showcase for their innovative process involving both two-dimensional and sculptural media.  FACTORY 418, a working collaborative of three Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts graduates, Lauren Prince, Eliza Serocki, and Brigid Tray, merge a variety of materials, textiles, wood, found objects into a single cohesive environment. Special presentations are scheduled throughout the Exhibition ending April 12. Sumbioun is sponsored by the W. Paul Beckwith Endowment, honoring NHArts board member who passionately supported work by young artists.

Sumbioun is a synthetic word selected by the artists to represent the collaborative process, working together to create. While the group has placed a number of installations in exhibitions and public spaces in Philadelphia and New York, the NHArts work is Factory418’s largest site-specific project to date. “The main sculpture uses over 700 pounds of cotton yarn suspended from the ceiling and extending through the gallery space. This is the first installation in which Factory418 has utilized a video component to further viewer interaction and understanding of the creative process,” artist Brigid Tray explained.  The installation will let viewers walk through and explore the piece from all angles, allowing for a fully immersive art experience.
